"Frolic in the Woods" - A Single Bed Quilt

This is my latest finish, a commissioned single bed quilt for a beautiful 5 year old girl who loves pink, the outdoors and anything with horses.

Fabric is Sarah Jane's Wee Wander range and features children playing and horses and deer's frolicking in the woods. With such intricate detail in the fabric and a request to keep the quilt simple from the customer I decided to frame a large panel and then add an additional border. For more information on the design you can read my previous post here.

I do warn you I'm absolutely in love with this fabric so this is a picture heavy post !!

The completed quilt is shown here on a King Single bed - it is actually single sized at 57.5 inches x 87 inches.

This is the quilt back and utilises another large Wee Wander print "Summer Ride in White". To link the front and back of the quilt I added a 2 1/2 inch strip from the first border and a large strip of the outer border. You could actually display either side as the front as both prints are equally as beautiful.

The quilt was then bound with "Nature Walk in Magenta" and frames the quilt beautifully. I prefer to hand bind my quilts as I like the finish and I'm not as confident with machine stitching.

And of course I couldn't post a finished quilt with out it all rolled up - looks so snuggly.

This beautiful quilt is off to it's new home next week with a matching pillowcase to one very excited little girl.

Till next time.......happy sewing !!

Wee Wander Quilt - Work in Progress

You saw from my last post how excited I was to have my hands on this fabric and what was even more special is that I was able to use this fabric to make a little girl her first ever quilt for her bed.

The fabric really does speak for itself so I decided to do minimal piecing to really show off the intricate imagery in the fabric line. Sarah Jane has amazing detail in her fabrics and Wee Wander is no exception. You are immediately transported to an amazing adventure with horses and deers frolicking in the woods and I can't help but smile every time I look at this fabric.

The Layout:
The front is a large fabric panel with 2 distinct borders. The panel "Wander Woods in Petal" is 2 yards x WOF. The first border "Nature Walk in Pink" is 2 1/2 inches the second border "Meandering in Petal" is 5 1/2 inches.

For the back I also utilised another large Wee Wander print "Summer Ride in White". To link the front and back of the quilt I added a 2 1/2 inch strip from the first border and a large strip of the outer border. If you look closely at the outer border there are tiny little footprints wondering through the roses it is quite exquisite.

The quilt top measures 57.5 inches x 87 inches.

This is now off to my longarm quilter for quilting.

Till next time.....happy sewing

Sunday Stash - Wee Wander by Sarah Jane

There are just some fabrics that when you see them you know you just have to have them! Sarah Jane's Wee Wander collection was just that for me. When I first saw this fabric I ordered it straight away. The collection comes in two distinct colourways, Sunrise and Twilight. I chose to work with some fabrics from the Sunrise range and was fortunate enough to be commissioned to make a single bed quilt from this line.

These larger prints and so cute and feature children playing and riding horses. There is just something magical about hand drawn images like these on fabric taking us back on a journey to our childhood. These prints will be a key feature of the quilt.

I've also included some blenders from the range which will be perfect for some borders and some feature corners. The darker pink (Nature Walk in Magenta) will border the quilt perfectly.
I can't wait to get started on this one !!

It's Sunday so I'm linking up with Molli Sparkles Sunday Stash weekly linky party.
