Tutorial - DIY Strap Covers

Today I thought I'd share with you a simple yet effective tutorial for strap covers. These can be used to protect the straps of your pram, car seat, high chair and baby carrier from drool, food and the like. They are also effective in the car to stop seatbelts from rubbing on your little ones neck.

Materials:
14" x 20" 100% Cotton Fabric
14" x 20" Minky Fabric
14" x 20" 100% Cotton Batting
10.5" x 1" Wide Velcro
Scissors
Tape Measure
Pins
Sewing Machine

Step 1. Out of each of the cotton and minky fabric cut two 7" x 10" rectangles. From the batting also cut two 7" x 10" rectangles. For the Velcro cut two 5 1/4' strips.

Step 2. Put one cotton piece on top of the minky piece, right sides together. Place one batting piece on top of that. Pin all together.

Step 3. Sew 1/2″ from the edge all of the way around leaving a 2″ opening.

Step 4. Turn the rectangle right side out and top stitch 1/4″ along the edge, closing the opening as you go.

Step 5. Stitch one Velcro strip “loop” side to the right side of the strap cover. Flip the rectangle over and repeat using “hook” side of the Velcro.

Step 6. Repeat steps 2 -5 for second strap cover.

You are finished. To use simply wrap around the strap you are covering and fasten the Velcro at the back. By using Velcro you are also able to adjust the width of the covers to fit your desired straps. To clean simply throw in the wash and line dry.

If you're not the crafty type, I've made a few and listed them in my Etsy store here.

Sunday Stash - Little Matryoshka

Just a little late with my Sunday Stash blog today - but better late than never don't they say. I had a good excuse I was busy having a fun filled day celebrating with family and friends my son's 5th Birthday - boy do they grow up quick.

Anyway back to the fabric. This gorgeous selection is from the Little Matryoshka range from Riley Blake. I have 5 half yards of this and had a request to make a pretty rag quilt for a little baby girl so I immediately pulled this out of the stash.

I just love these beautiful florals and the way that blues add a special touch to a girly quilt.

I also snuck in some spots and stripes from the range as well.

I've already cut into this fabric - 10 inch squares and 9 inch batting ready for rag quilt construction. This one shouldn't take long to go together and I can't wait to see how these fabrics will look all together.

It's Sunday so I'm linking up with Molli Sparkles Sunday Stash weekly linky party.

Lusciousness Quilt - Work In Progress

If you have been following my blog you would have seen that beautiful Lush fabric by Patty Young for Michael Miller.

I matched the fabric up with some super soft grey shot cotton from my stash and just love the softness it brings to the quilt.

This is queen bed size and I will be backing it with the large Iris floral print and binding with the super bright Clown Stripe in "Candy" Pink by Michael Miller Fabrics.

Sunday Stash - Garden Party Tango

Garden Party Tango is the latest collection by Iza Pearl Design. I'm in love with the versatility of this range with florals, geometric prints and spots.

These would have to be my favourite prints in the bundle I just love these florals and can see lots of little girls dresses made with these.

For me though, I will be cutting up this little bundle of joy to make a very special quilt with my new quilt block design and am super excited.

Little Black Book Quilt - Work in Progress

It's not often I get the time to work on something for myself so I am making this gorgeous black and white double bed quilt for my nephew. He's 18 so I get that quilts aren't really that cool so I'm hoping this will change his mind - a little anyway.

Fabrics are Shades of Black by Me and My Sister Designs for Moda Fabrics. I bought 2 layer cakes plus some white solid to make this quilt. Pattern is from Me and My Sisters Designs and is available to purchase here. I have added extra rows and blocks to this pattern to make it into a generous double bed size.

The pattern says fast, fun and easy but for me there was a lot of cutting and sewing in this one so I wouldn't say it was fast.

Unfinished blocks are rectangle shaped and come out at 4.5" x 8.5" and for a generous double size quilt there are a lot of them (a total of 144 blocks to be specific !!)

I am very happy with the final result and love the black and white with a touch of grey.

I added a 6 inch border utilising one of the grey prints from the range and plan to have this quilted by my wonderful longarm quilter over the next few weeks. I have decided to back this one with Script Britton Nummer Fabric for IKEA by Emma Jones.

I can't wait to share the finished quilt with you all (and my nephew of course).
