Purple Pillowness !!

I was super excited to find out at the beginning of the year that the Pantone Colour of the Year was "Radiant Orchid". After having just finished my purple King Bed Churn Dash quilt I couldn't have been more proud.

Having some left over fabric from the quilt I decided to make a beautiful quilted pillow inspired by the 2014 Pantone Quilt Challenge.

2014 Pantone Quilt Challenge: Radiant Orchid

I decided I wanted something fresh and went about designing my own block - I'm hoping to share a pattern for this one soon.

Combining HST's with some homespun white this lovely design just spoke to me. I'm really happy with the result and can't wait to make a full sized quilt with this block.

I quilted using straight line quilting a quarter of an inch each side of the seam with my walking foot and backed with a crisp white homespun and finished it off with an envelope enclosure.

The finished pillow measures 16" square.

Till next time, happy sewing....

  1. Jenny, what a great job you have done on that cushion. Love the use of the Pantone colour of the year :)

    1. Thanks so much Vicki I'm enjoying making pillows using up scraps at the moment.

  2. What a gorgeous block! I always assume that all possible combinations of HSTs have been figured out, and yet here you go, a new one, and it's beautiful. :)

  3. Thanks Anne - I am just waiting on some fabric to arrive then I am going to make this block into a full quilt - can't wait !!

  4. Very nice! I love a good half-square triangle, especially in a block I haven't seen before, great job!

  5. Thanks Elizabeth it always amazes me the variations you can get with the humble HST.
